Request for Proposals
Florida and the Caribbean: Historical Ties and Cultural Connections
From early exchanges to the current influx of Caribbean immigrants to Florida, our southernmost state has at times been seen as the northernmost province of the Caribbean. FHC seeks projects that interpret and analyze these ties in order to better understand our common history.
FHC will give priority to grant proposals that address both the historical and contemporary ties between Florida and the Caribbean. Successful projects may:
- address ancient pre-Columbian trade routes and exchanges;
- explore European impact through conquest and settlement;
- examine the dynamics of immigration at various periods of history;
- focus on cultural connections between Florida and the Caribbean (literary, architectural, legal, religious, artistic, etc.)
- create connections between scholars of Florida and the Caribbean for greater understanding of both.
This RFP may apply to Mini, Partnership, or Major grants. Priority consideration will be given to grants responding to this initiative.
Programs must include humanities scholars with expertise in the area of study.
Projects must be completed and funds expended by March 31, 2009.
