Apalachicola—October 29–31, 2010
|
|
Apalachicola has been defined by the river that bears its name. In the 18th and 19th centuries, ships plied the river bearing cotton, lumber, seafood, and oysters—products that brought prosperity and international recognition to the town. Today this picturesque port community still boasts a maritime heritage that compliments the area’s bountiful natural resources. Our Apalachicola Gathering marshals community resources and maritime scholars to explore this gem of the Gulf Coast. Join us as we tour the historic downtown, visit the Thirteen Mile Oyster Company for an insider’s view of oyster harvesting, and indulge in luscious cuisine. We’ll meet scientists who explain the importance of the estuary and locals who discuss attempts to preserve the traditions and small-town atmosphere. For more information and to register click here.
