Florida in a New Era

Florida may be at a turning point. The runaway population growth that powered its economy for 60 years has sputtered and stalled. Floridians now have a chance to regroup, rethink, and re-imagine what their state should be. FORUM, in partnership with the Askew Institute for Politics and Society, asked 10 top Florida thinkers for some bold ideas.

Some highlights:

A shift to high-level jobs is crucial
By David A. Denslow, economist at UF Warrington College of Business Administration
Do what’s right by our children
By David Lawrence Jr., president of The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation of Miami
Universities are key to our economic future
By John Delaney, president in residence of the Florida Board of Governors
So many residents, so few Floridians
By Gary R. Mormino, Florida Studies professor at USF St. Petersburg
Our environmental emergency is now
By Steven M. Seibert, policy director at the Collins Center for Public Policy

Preparing for climate change
